20th National LGBTQIA2S+Health Awareness Week

March 21-25, 2022 marks the 20th National LGBTQIA2S+Health Awareness Week. This week brings awareness to the health disparities found throughout the LGBTQIA2S+community.

A vibrant abstract painting features bold, textured vertical stripes in the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. The rich, layered application of paint on a canvas gives the piece a dynamic, tactile quality, celebrating diversity and inclusion. The colors blend subtly at the edges, creating an organic, harmonious flow.

March 21-25, 2022 marks the 20th National LGBTQIA2S+Health Awareness Week. Started more than two decades ago by The National Coalition for LGBTQIA2S+Health, this week brings awareness to the health disparities found throughout the LGBTQIA2S+community.

What Problems Do LGBTQIA2S+People Face?

The LGBTQIA2S+community faces discrimination every day, including when searching for healthcare. Among healthcare providers, there is a shortage of those knowledgeable about LGBTQIA2S+health, as well as a lack of social programs that are LGBTQIA2S+inclusive. Although laws prohibit health care providers and insurers from discriminating against LGTBQ people, it still exists. Unfortunately, this means many LGBTQIA2S+people avoid seeking healthcare altogether.

How Can I Get Involved?

There are several ways you can participate in LGBTQIA2S+Health Awareness Week, such as:

  • Attend educational and advocacy events
  • Start a conversation with friends and family
