At Spectrum Medical, we believe your healthcare experience should reflect your whole self, your identity, your needs, and your life. Taking control of your health means having access to providers who see you fully and support you completely. Whether you’re managing a chronic condition or scheduling your first routine exam in years, we’re here to walk with you, not ahead of you, not behind you, but beside you.
As a trusted leader in LGBTQIA2S+ health in the Phoenix Valley since 1997, Spectrum Medical offers inclusive, state-of-the-art care with compassion and expertise. We understand that historically, many queer individuals have had to navigate systems that weren’t built with them in mind. We’re here to change that.
Whole-Person Care That Centers You
When you walk through our doors, you gain a care team that listens without judgment and treats you with dignity. We offer comprehensive services designed to support every part of your health: physical, sexual, mental, and emotional.
Whole-person healthcare means looking at the bigger picture of your well-being—not just one symptom or diagnosis. It’s about:
- Physical health: Preventive checkups, managing chronic conditions, and early detection through screenings.
- Sexual health: Access to inclusive services like PrEP, PEP, DoxyPEP, HIV treatment, and STI testing and treatment.
- Mental and emotional health: Recognizing that stress, anxiety, and life experiences affect your overall health, and connecting you with supportive resources.
- Social health: Understanding that identity, community, and life circumstances—like discrimination, financial barriers, or lack of safe spaces—shape your health outcomes.
Whole-person care means we meet you where you are, affirm your identity, and work with you to set goals that reflect your unique needs and values.
Primary Care
Primary care is the foundation of a long, healthy life. Regular check-ups, screenings, and goal-setting help catch health concerns early and keep you on track. We work collaboratively to build a care plan tailored to you, not a checklist. With diagnostic testing, medication management, and health coaching, your path forward starts here.
STI Testing
Did you know that between 1,800 and 4,000 residents in Arizona don’t know they are living with HIV? Syphilis infections (primary, secondary, and early latent) have also increased (+8%) throughout the state. Staying on top of knowing your status is critical to living out loud. Offering the community full-service STI testing and treatment is a core focus at Spectrum Medical, which includes community outreach and Testing After Dark.
HIV Treatment and Care
Living with HIV shouldn’t mean living with stigma. Our expert providers offer compassionate, confidential HIV care that includes everything from diagnosis and medication management to mental health support and connection to resources. We also offer rapid INSTI HIV testing with results in under a minute.
PrEP & PEP
If HIV prevention is part of your sexual health plan, we’re here to help. Yeztugo, the first twice-yearly PrEP injection, is now available at Spectrum Medical. Yeztugo is two injections a year for powerful HIV prevention. This breakthrough makes protecting your health easier, more discreet, and designed to fit your lifestyle.
Our care providers are here to help you decide if Yeztugo, or daily PrEP, is right for you. PrEP remains a once-a-day medication that, when taken regularly, is incredibly effective at preventing HIV. PEP, on the other hand, is an emergency prevention method that must be started within 72 hours after potential exposure, such as a condom break or an encounter you’re unsure about.
DoxyPEP
DoxyPEP is a game-changing tool in preventing chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis when taken within 72 hours of sexual activity. Early detection is crucial, especially for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals who may face higher rates of undiagnosed STIs due to limited access to affirming care.
Hepatitis C Treatment
Hepatitis C disproportionately affects people living with HIV and those in marginalized communities. At Spectrum, we offer modern, highly effective treatments to help eliminate the virus and restore your health, often with a simple oral regimen.
Why LGBTQIA2S+ Inclusive Care Matters
Queer and trans people often face health disparities caused by discrimination, stigma, and lack of access to providers who truly understand their needs. You shouldn’t have to explain your identity just to receive respectful care.
Inclusive healthcare means more than being “welcoming.” It means building a system of care designed to affirm your whole identity, protect your dignity, and address the unique health challenges LGBTQIA2S+ people experience.
What inclusive care looks like:
- Affirming your identity: Using your correct name and pronouns, honoring how you describe your body, and ensuring you never have to re-explain yourself just to get care.
- Recognizing health disparities: Understanding higher rates of conditions such as HIV, certain cancers, mental health concerns, and substance use within queer communities—and providing proactive, compassionate treatment.
- Trauma-informed care: Acknowledging that past negative experiences with healthcare may make it hard to trust providers, and creating a safe, judgment-free environment for you to ask questions and receive care.
- Addressing social determinants of health: Recognizing that factors like housing stability, employment, discrimination, and access to affirming spaces directly impact your overall well-being.
- Whole-person approach: Supporting not just physical health, but also sexual, mental, and emotional health because your life experiences and health are interconnected.
We know healthcare avoidance is real for people who’ve been misgendered, dismissed, or treated unfairly. That’s why we make inclusivity a foundation, not an afterthought. Whether you’re gay, trans, intersex, asexual, non-binary, polyamorous, questioning, or still finding your words, this is your medical home.
Embrace Self-Advocacy
In the LGBTQIA2S+ community, self-advocacy is essential, particularly for people seeking gender-affirming care. Take control of your health and identity by finding healthcare providers who understand your unique needs. In the fight against HIV stigma, self-advocacy plays a role. Raise your voice, educate others, and encourage regular HIV testing to prevent further transmission.
