Dr. Howard Grossman Joins Spectrum Medical as Medical Director
Spectrum Medical is thrilled to welcome nationally recognized LGBTQIA2S+ healthcare leader and HIV medicine pioneer, Dr. Howard Grossman, as our new Medical Director.
With a career spanning four decades, Dr. Grossman brings a legacy of fearless advocacy, clinical innovation, and deep compassion for the communities Spectrum proudly serves. He’s not just a physician—he’s a movement-maker. From the early days of the HIV epidemic to shaping inclusive care models that empower LGBTQIA2S+ patients, his work has transformed lives and influenced the future of healthcare.
Dr. Grossman joins Spectrum at a pivotal time as we expand our services and deepen our commitment to whole-person, identity-affirming care. “Like Spectrum, I believe healthcare is a partnership,” he says. “When patients see me, they’re getting years of experience—but more than that, they’re getting care rooted in empathy, respect, and trust. Ultimately, this work is about them feeling seen, heard, and valued.”
A Trailblazer in LGBTQIA2S+ and HIV Healthcare
Dr. Grossman’s impact is felt across the country. He opened the first private primary care practice in New Jersey dedicated solely to LGBTQIA2S+ health and HIV care. He led HIV-focused clinics in New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, and most recently, at the LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas. As Executive Director of the American Academy of HIV Medicine, he championed front-line providers across the nation.
He also brings a global perspective, having helped establish the first HIV treatment center in western Nepal and mentored clinicians across Russia and Belarus. Whether it’s building programs from the ground up or guiding national policy, his passion for community-centered healthcare has never wavered.
A Physician Who Sees the Whole You
In his role as Medical Director, Dr. Grossman will help shape the next generation of Spectrum’s care, focusing on expanding access to gender-affirming hormone therapy, HIV prevention and treatment, STI services, and compassionate aging care.
His clinical expertise is deeply complemented by a genuine compassion for the lived experiences of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, reflecting an understanding that goes beyond mere knowledge. “Delivering great care is about honoring autonomy and creating a space that’s judgment-free,” he emphasizes. “People deserve a place where they feel comfortable talking openly about their health—and Spectrum is that place.”
