Beyond specialized care, we provide primary care services to help patients achieve optimal health. As a nonprofit organization, our community outreach program delivers healthcare services statewide, including HIV and STI testing, PrEP, PEP, DoxyPEP, and sexual health education.

A Doctor with a Passion for Inclusive Healthcare

Spectrum Medical was founded in 1997 by Dr. Thanes Vanig, our Chief Medical Officer, who saw firsthand the urgent need for specialized HIV care and a welcoming, inclusive environment for all individuals. Driven by a deep passion for addressing healthcare disparities, Dr. Vanig established Spectrum Medical to offer expert care tailored to the unique needs of our community. His unwavering commitment to compassionate, inclusive healthcare has laid the foundation for our organization, shaping the values and principles we continue to uphold today.

Advancing Toward an HIV-Free Future

Spectrum Medical joined the City of Phoenix Fast-Track Cities Initiative in 2016, a global effort to eliminate new HIV cases by 2030. Through this initiative, we provide comprehensive treatment and support for people living with HIV and work to prevent new infections through education and services like PrEP and PEP.

  • What insurance providers does Spectrum Medical accept?

    We contract with most of the major insurance companies, as well as Medicare and AHCCCS. To learn more, click here.

  • Do you only serve patients from the Phoenix area?

    No, the team at Spectrum Medical is proud to provide affirming healthcare for patients of all sexual orientations and gender identities across Phoenix and throughout Arizona, including Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Glendale, Gilbert, and Chandler.

  • Can I become a patient if I don’t identify as LGBTQ+?

    Yes! While our services are designed to meet the specific needs of LGBTQ+ patients and people living with HIV, we welcome patients of all backgrounds to access treatment at our Care Center. If you’re interested in stigma-free, inclusive care, we encourage you to schedule an appointment.

  • Are Spectrum Medical’s providers LGBTQ+?

    Many of our providers are members of the LGBTQ+ community, and bring lived experience to our care model. We understand the unique challenges facing our patients and believe that creating healthcare by and with the LGBTQ+ community leads to more empathetic and informed care experiences.

  • Can I request to be seen by a provider of a certain gender identity?

    Yes. You’re welcome to request a provider of a certain gender identity if that will make your healthcare experience more comfortable! If you would prefer a transgender health provider based on your needs, we have a provider who is happy to support you.
