Looking for Other PrEP Options?

PrEP is now available in multiple forms, including a daily pill, bi-monthly injectable PrEP with Apretude, and twice-yearly injectable PrEP with YEZTUGO.

When taken as prescribed, PrEP can reduce the risk of HIV transmission by up to 99%. Spectrum Medical can help you find the prevention option that best fits your lifestyle and healthcare needs.

  • Can I switch from daily oral PrEP to YEZTUGO injections?

Yes, you can transition your HIV prevention strategy from pills to twice-yearly injections with YEZTUGO. Before starting YEZTUGO, we will need to confirm you are negative for HIV. A Spectrum Medical provider will then help you plan your transition to ensure there is no gap in HIV prevention while switching between options.

  • What should I expect during a visit to Spectrum Medical for YEZTUGO?

During a YEZTUGO visit, you can expect HIV testing before your injection to confirm that YEZTUGO remains appropriate for you. Once your provider confirms you can receive the medication, YEZTUGO is administered as a subcutaneous injection, which means it is given under the skin, typically in the abdomen or thigh.

The injection itself is usually quick. Some people may experience temporary injection site reactions, such as mild pain, redness, swelling, or irritation. A Spectrum Medical provider will walk you through the process, answer your questions, and help you understand what to expect before and after your appointment.

  • Does YEZTUGO protect against other STIs like chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis?

No. YEZTUGO only protects you from an HIV infection and will not combat bacterial STIs. We encourage you to still use condoms while on YEZTUGO if you’re concerned about STI transmission. You can also speak with a Spectrum Medical provider about DoxyPEP, an antibiotic taken after sexual activity to reduce STI risk.

  • What happens if I miss my 6-month YEZTUGO appointment?

YEZTUGO includes a flexibility window of up to two weeks before or after your scheduled injection date. Staying on schedule is important to help maintain effective HIV prevention. If you think you may miss your appointment, contact Spectrum Medical as soon as possible. Depending on timing, your provider may discuss options to help avoid interruptions in protection and keep your prevention plan on track.

  • Can I schedule an appointment with Spectrum Medical for YEZTUGO if I don’t live in Phoenix?

Yes! We support patients across the Valley and throughout Arizona, including Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Glendale, Chandler, Gilbert, Peoria, Surprise, and surrounding communities to access HIV prevention.
