HIV & PrEP Injectable Treatments

The fight against HIV transmission continues every day, including advancements in treatment. So, what does that mean for the community? Well, it means people with HIV and those exposed to the virus may soon have access to injectable treatment options.

CABENUVA for PrEP

CABENUVA is a once-a-month, injectable HIV treatment used to keep patients undetectable on a monthly basis. This is an extended release HIV treatment, which releases two medicines throughout the month to maintain the same level of medication between appointments. In short – no more pills and a lot more flexibility. Patients should speak with their medical provider to see if CABENUVA is a feasible treatment option, and then to their insurance provider to find out if CABENUVA is a covered medication on their Prescription Insurance plan.

APRETUDE for PrEP

APRETUDE is the first FDA-approved injectable treatment used to prevent HIV. As an alternative to daily PrEP pills, APRETUDE patients receive two injections one month apart to begin their treatment and then every two months following. Patients should speak with their medical provider to see if APRETUDE is a feasible treatment option, and then with their insurance provider to find out if APRETUDE is a covered medication on their Prescription Insurance plan.
